Second Prenatal - 12 Weeks 3 Days Today

Had our second prenatal with our lovely midwives this morning. I mentioned my frequent headaches (twice a week) and they threw out the possibilities of posture change or vascular change - meaning, with my blood volume increasing, perhaps my head gets a bit overwhelmed with the amount and I get a headache. Both theories make sense to me since when I lay down the headache disappears.

And then it was Doppler time. I've been gearing baby up for this moment, telling him or her that I was probably going to be nervous and that perhaps baby would feel a change in their environment but everything would be okay, and to please move as high as possible and present yourself, just for a minute. I also mentioned to baby that when the Doppler was going to be used I probably wasn't going to be able to offer much reminders or reassurance that everything was okay.

Kelly had a hard time finding the heartbeat and I know how hard it can be in an early mother. Kim came over and asked the baby to show up, just for a second, and sure enough, she was able to find it.

It was a strange moment for me. I can't compare it to anything else really. It wasn't like the ultrasound when I was sure everything was wrong and then it turned out right. Perhaps it's like thinking you might loose everything and then the next second realize that you actually get to keep everything AND you get some extra happy stuff as well.

Vital Stats
Weight: 125 - Up 13 pounds from pre-pregnancy weight.

Blood Pressure: 98/52

Pulse: 92 - My pulse was taken after the heartbeat was found and I was so relieved that I felt I was going to pass out. I am usually in the steady 60's.

Urine pH: 8! What, why? This is still within the normal range, but I just didn't think my diet would produce such a base pH. I mean, I rarely eat veggies right now. But no big deal since I have zero signs of bacterial growth, which is encouraged with alkaline urine. Wait, as I'm typing this I am realizing that lentils and chic peas are legumes, both of which I ate before my appointment and both of which really alkalinize urine. Ok, there you go, mystery solved.

Uterus: Above the pubic bone. See, it wasn't my imagination.

Fetal Heart Rate: 150's
